We manufacture advanced memory foam mattresses that help you sleep cooler and more comfortably through the night so that you wake up feeling refreshed and ready to take on whatever the day throws at you.
Job Summary: 
The EHS Specialist contributes to administration of EHS programs. Generates and maintains documentation related to EHS initiatives. Conducts research for the purpose of identifying, abating, or eliminating sources of pollutants or environmental hazards. This position also supports the review and analysis of work environments and programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, and ergonomic factors. The EHS Specialist also conducts inspections and enforces adherence to laws and regulations governing the health and safety of Healthcare Arizona team members.
Supervisory Responsibilities: 
  • None. 
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Support efforts to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials. 
  • Recommend suspension of activities that pose threats to workers' health or safety. 
  • Participate in the investigation of accidents to identify causes or to determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future.
  • Inspect or evaluate workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
  • Collaborate with other team members to control or mediate hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions or equipment.
  • Support industrial hygiene programs and management plans.
  • Coordinate "right-to-know" programs regarding hazardous chemicals or other substances.
  • Conduct safety training or education programs and demonstrate the use of safety equipment.
  • Collect samples of dust, gases, vapors, or other potentially toxic materials for analysis.
  • Investigate the adequacy of ventilation, exhaust equipment, lighting, or other conditions that could affect employee health, comfort, or performance.
  • Participate in the investigation of accidents and health-related complaints and inspections.
  • Ensure compliance with emergency response plans or procedures.
  • Provide new-employee health and safety orientations and help develop materials for these presentations.
  • Inspect specified areas to ensure the presence of fire prevention equipment, safety equipment, or first-aid supplies.
  • Participate in the inventory of hazardous materials or hazardous wastes, using waste tracking systems to ensure that materials are handled properly.
  • Help maintain medical monitoring programs for employees.
  • Other duties as assigned. 
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 
  • English Language — Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. 
  • Chemistry — Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.
  • Law and Government — Knowledge of laws, legal codes, government regulations, and agency rules in the area of Environmental Health & Safety.
  • Engineering and Technology — Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology.
  • Mechanical — Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. 
  • Speaking and Active Listening — Skilled at talking to others to convey information effectively and giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made. 
  • Critical Thinking — Skilled at using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

  • Systems Evaluation & Analysis — Skilled at identifying measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance and determining how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes. 
  • Instructing — Skilled at teaching others how to do something.

  • Time Management — Skilled at managing one's own time and the time of others. 
  • Oral Comprehension — The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.

  • Problem Sensitivity & Solving — The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong and then developing a plan for mitigation.
  • Written Expression — The ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand.
Education and Experience: 
  • Associates Degree in EHS or Related field, (Chemistry or Engineering Technology) with Accredited Certifications as an SSH, CSHO, CSHT and/or Outreach Instructor for 10/30hr programs preferred. 
  • Must have 5 years General Industry experience, (Manufacturing Industry preferred). 
  • Previous experience as part of an emergency response team where the duties included providing initial incident response preferred.
OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in EHS or related field, (Chemistry or Engineering Technology). Will Consider on the Job experience in leu of education.
  • Instructor experience, 2 years General Industry experience and have proven job experience, (Manufacturing Industry Preferred). 
Physical Requirements: 
  • Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. 
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and make fine discriminations in sound. 
  • The worker is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work. 
  • The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. 
  • The worker is subject to noise: There is sufficient noise to cause worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
